My Latest Beads

I developed new polymer clay beads for this month's Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy challenge. The theme was mixed media so I combined my new roughly faceted poly clay beads with my wet-felted merino beads in mint. It's a wild combination, not for the shy! I also made matching earrings.

I love the little round mint poly clay beads I made to coordinate, they are so round and satisfying! To get that color, I mixed a mint I liked and then added a little of that to translucent clay and blended it completely. The result is almost like that of Fire King Jadeite. The translucent Premo clay has a nice firm texture that makes it nice for rolling round bead between your fingers.

I think the voting is usually around the 28th, so check in with the PCAGOE website from time to time to see if you can vote and enter to win a poly clay prize pack!

UPDATE: The winner is announced :)

  1. I love this color combo, It reminds me of a necklace I made a couple of years ago - though the green was a tad more yellow - it was chalcedony slabs and biwa pearls in a deep marron. Have to see if any of those beads left in my stash.

BTW, Amelia is making kitties now and Chester has expressed a desire for his likeness in wool, lol. If you can't make one yourself, I know where you can order one. lol.

Also, do you needlefelt your beads or the hot sudsy water way rolled between your hands. That's the way I have done them before.

    AND,

How, my dear do you get your lovely little picture to appear in all of your blog signatures?

  2. Felt kitty sounds cute :)

Those beads are wet felted, I'll add that to the post. I needle felt the flowers I make that have the distinct petals.

And the pic is from my blogger profile! If you load one up and make it public, it will show when you post :)

  3. Yummy, yummy necklace! Now I have to go buy some more mint choc chip icecream! I really dig the earrings, too.

I cracked myself up today - I was helping out at the playdough table at preschool and I kept making little balls, thinking, "Hmm, if this were felt, my beads would be round like Liz's." It's a sign I need to make felt beads. Where do I start? What do I need? Guide me, please!

  4. Mmm, ice cream.

Ha! You always crack me up. But it's a good idea to practice on Play Doh! I got my practice with 20 years of polymer clay :)

PS I'm sending you a convo

  12. Congrats on your third place! Yeah. How many entries were there?
Just Curious: Can you tell how to clean the felt beads? (or have you done that somewhere on your website and I am lame for not seeing it) If you wear it on bare skin, does it pick up the oils/perfumes - or do you recommend wearing it over clothing - or throw caution to the wind? Congrats again, I can't wait to see what else you create.

  13. I came in third out of 22, so not bad! I am pleased. There were over 150 votes which I think was an all time high for us.

I have never talked about cleaning and care of felt beads, that's a good question. Um, I guess I'd better Google that, eh? HA!

But seriously, I think that textiles in jewelry will naturally show wear over time, I don't think there's any way around that. I noticed that my flower brooches got a little fuzzy when I wore them on my winter coat for a whole season. Maybe that's part of the charm?

  15. It's amazing how well teal & red go together. Lovely necklace even if it is a bit bulkier than I'm used to.
